Mayan Families "Hope for the Animals" is heartened by the recent actions of the U.S. Senate

Mayan Families "Hope for the Animals" is heartened by the recent actions of the U.S. Senate to pass two important pieces of animal legislation. Both of these measures now go to the House of Representatives.
The Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act (US S 1947/ H.R. 2492) would make it a federal offense to attend an organized animal fight and increases the penalties for bringing a minor to a fight. People who watch these cruel exhibitions and encourage children to attend should be severely penalized.
The Senate also passed an amendment to the Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2013 Military Activities (S. 3254), allowing the Secretary of Defense to establish and maintain a system to provide for the veterinary care of retired military working dogs. Dogs who have served America in the military should be rewarded for protecting our service men and women, not discarded like unneeded equipment. After their tour of duty is over, these heroic dogs should be eligible for veterinary care.

They are so thin and just need some love.

Almost rescued

Here are more examples of dogs that we tried to rescue. The German Shepherd was tied up it's whole life on this short chain and was going crazy. The owner was willing to get rid of the dog, but when we returned with a Woman who wanted them, the owner said, "No", that family living nearby were taking them. These are just more examples of why humane education in schools is so important!

Starving Mama Dog and her puppies!

This starving mama dog was rescued today from where she had given
birth to her puppies on the outside of someone's home in San Antonio
Palopo, Guatemala.  She was not wanted there and they had been kind enough to let
her stay till her puppies were a little bigger but they didn't want
her there any longer.
We have the puppies and the mama dog.  We will get the mama fixed as
soon as she stops feeding ....and hope we can find homes for all these
cute little puppies.  It is so hard to find good homes....this is the
reason we encourage people to spay and neuter........too many unwanted
dogs and too much suffering.
